How to clean the excess 3D Meshes in the tool palette? [Answered]

I’ve been working on my model in my spare time and noticed that in the “3D Mesh” section of the tool palette it retains a lot of old stuff I was playing with. How can I clean that out so that I’m left with just the selected tool? (I’ve tried pressing the “R” button there to clean it, but after save/re-open the same meshes are still populating the 3D Mesh section.)

Thanks for helping this n00bie!

Maybe they’re saved with your project file? Or maybe you saved it with user preferences?

@nebular: Yes, they are saving along with the project file. It’s nice that it does this, but I would like to clean it down to just the “3D Mesh” I’m using. Where is the setting in preferences that you mention? Is there a way to toggle it?

@Doug: That’s just swapping the tool? (appending and deleting the unneeded one)…sorry if I have misunderstood.

In the 3D Meshes area outlined below, I want to clean out the excess old meshes I’ve made (via transpose master, and creating eyes, extractions etc) and just be left with the defaults and my single 3D Mesh (Tool)…NB:Screengrab below is just generic stuff for an example).

The only way I know to do this at the moment, is to save my Tool, start a new document and re-load my Tool. Is there a faster way to just clean the project file up?

Thanks for your help guys…

This macro will do what you want. Save the file to your ZBrush 4R5/ZStartup/Macros/Misc folder and then press the Macro>Reload All Macros button. You should then have a ‘Tool Reset’ button in the Macro>Misc sub-palette.

Pressing the button will bring up a Save As dialog for the current 3D model (it must be in Edit mode). Save the tool and then the Tool palette will be reset. The saved tool will be automatically reloaded. Note all the other custom Tools in the Tool palette will be deleted - there’s no warning and no way of getting them back!

HTH,

@marcus_civis: That saves a few steps [and file size] nicely! Thanks!
