I’d like to add some alphas to use whenever zbrush turns on however I can’t find the directory where alpha 01 to alpha 55 is located. When I add alphas to C:\program files (x86)\Pixologic\zbrush 4r7/zalphas/ directory which pops up if you hit “,” The alpha ends up in the texture tab on the left side of the default zbrush layout. The alphas I want to use were jpgs from zbrushcentral and I converted them to psd files. Did I miss doing something to them in photoshop that prevents them from being read as alphas? I merely saved them in that format.
If you put your alphas in the ZBrush 4R7\ZStartup\Alphas folder then they will be available in the Alpha palette when ZBrush starts.
Also, when saving or converting alphas you need to make sure that they are 16 bits per channel. (You can check this in Photoshop through Image>Mode.) If you save as 8 bit then they will be loaded into the Texture palette.
Got it to work finally. What was need was to convert them to grayscale.
