How to apply specular maps?

Hi,

I’m using zbrush 4 and trying for the first time to really have a go at shading in zbrush.

In the material modifiers tab, I can select between 1 and 4 shaders, and at the bottom of each one there are 4 colour/texture modifiers. I can change the colour texture, and the colour tab of all 4 slots, but can’t add a texture to any others - they appear greyed out.

This is with the tri, quad, and any other shader I’ve looked at - is there something I have to ebnable?

Specular maps can not be applied in Zbrush.

It is strange that the box marked “spec” has a texture slot beneath it. You just can’t use it it seems.

you can use an image but it isn’t applied with a UV map it is a simple projection that will be applied and will most likely not provide the effect you’re looking for when thinking of a spec map.
