How to add detail to a section of the Mesh?

Hi everyone. I used Zbrush a long while ago. Getting interested in it again. I’m making this sculpt of a war hammer. I’m having a problem with polygon density at the bottom of the handle. I stuffed up the scale in my blockout in Maya, so I lengthened it once in Zbrush. The problem is I need more polygons down there for sculpting in these grooves. I remember seeing in a tutorial once that the guy was able to just add more polygons to a certain area. I tried hunting it down, but couldn’t find it.

How do I do this?

Thanks.

Here’s a link to my concept.

Just mask the areas you don’t want subdivided. Then when you subdivide (control D) you wont add a subdivision level. You will just get more polygons in the non masked area.

Thanks for the tip Joe. I tried it. It made me do it at the lowest sub-division, which I did. It game me weird results. I guess I’ll just re-import that handle with my edge loops down it. Thanks.

ZBer… you just taught me something VERY cool, I didn’t know it was SELECT, I thought I had to mask, and that always resulted in an error telling me to hide part of the mesh…

THANKS!
