How texturing works in Zbrush ?

Can some one give me an idiot’s description of texturing in Zbrush please

I’ve loaded the default head model into Zbrush and created a brand new texture 2048 x 2048 using the power of 2 plugin.

The texture is currently selected on the left hand side of the screen.

If I decide to go into Projection mode with Colours and double sided selected and drop the model to the canvas I can now paint onto my model using the Coloured spray brush.

When I’m happy I can exit Proj mode and “Pickup now”

The texture that I made in Proj mode disappears and the texture on the left stills looks pristine white.

I guess I’ve missed some step or concept here ?

It’s probably the UV mapping. Either UV’s are disabled, or they haven’t been assigned. With your 2048 texture applied to the model, go to Tool>Texture. Press Enable UV’s if it’s available, and then press GUVTiles. You should now be fine.
