I was sitting here working on a model and gettin’ frustrated as usual and just was wondering how popular this program has become. I know there are a great many people on the board that use the demo version. I for one have the full version and was wondering if anyone knew how many copies have actually sold? I for one want to see this thing take off and become the next best thing since Photoshop dominated the market. Anyone have any insights?
I, for one, agree that ZBrush is great! I, for one, think, however, that it is still relatively unknown. I, for one, would also like to see it hit the market and dominate the graphics industry.
I’m brand new to 3D software – Zbrush is the only one I’ve tried. I’d be interested to hear from others how it compares to Poser, Bryce, and some of the other software I’ve seen mentioned.
Particularly, how does the price compare to its capabilities? Zbrush is very affordable – I assume it would have some limitations that higher-end software wouldn’t have – but maybe that’s just an assumption on my part.
Does anyone know of a site that compares different 3D software?

Every software has its own advantages and places where it shines. What makes ZBrush special is that it is so darned versatile and bridges the gap between 3D and 2D applications. Most of the higher end applications are only more powerful in that they are geared toward animation, where ZBrush is primarily aimed at scene creation (with a few other things like the 3D modeling thrown in).
There’s a new section at the Pixologic website called ZBrush at Work. You might find it interesting reading, as it deals with how the program is being used in the “real world”!
I have tried a lot of graphics software, and as aurick says each has its own strong points or ease of doing various thngs. I always return to ZBrush though, mainly because of the individuals who are members here, and the fact that although it is not an easy program to learn, it constantly presents a challenge to try and master some aspect of it, which keeps me motivated. At 65, something has to be good to keep me motivated for as long as this program has. As far as I am conserned it is greatly underestimated.
Coming from conventional sculpting the wireframe apps just drove me mad. If I hadn’t found Zbrush I would probably have given up. Amorphium from the modelling point of view is similar but not as good in my opinion, the version I have has nothing like the facilities of ZBrush. I couldn’t get the demo of Amorphium Pro to work,it was from a magazine CD that I had. I emailed Amorphium and they never answered so I didn’t bother anymore, their loss not mine. I think ZBrush will lose all its competitors with its present progress.
