How long to be skilled in Zbrush?

I am currently modelling in 3ds Max and am quite good at it but I am not getting that fine detail i’m looking for. I wanted to learn Zbrush 4R6 and become very good at so that I can create models that look very detailed and have better looking Renders. I was wondering about how long it would take to get the basics down? Also, how long to become skilled enough to where I can create very High Poly character models? I realize this a “how long is a piece of string?” type question but I just want to know how long it would take to learn approximately. Thank you.

All depends. Learning the interface is pretty straight forward, it is just a piece of software. Learning to sculpt…well, that is a whole different kitty.

Basically, to learn Zbrush (interface and workflow) I would give it 2 weeks. 20-40hrs. To learn to sculpt, years.

If you can model in any software package, you are a step above one who has never modeled. If you can get something decent in Max you can use GoZ or export as .obj to get that model into ZBrush. Learning takes time, how bad do you want it? ZBrush has many tools and methods to make creation easier. Masking, groups, transpose are all very useful as is Shadowbox. You’ll have to experiment with many things> brushes, sliders and various settings. Use subtools. Divide when you can no longer add the detail you think you need.
