How does this work? (newbie)

Hey everyone, I was reading this tutorial - http://www.jcappelletti.com/z3tut02/ - great tut, learned a lot, but I don’t understand what happens between step 31 and 53. Basically, there’s the model in ZBrush with painted polys and bad UVs. Then you export the polypaint to a texture and export the OBJ. You import it in maya, being careful of that checkbox, make some new UVs for the model, and export it to OBJ again. And here is what I don’t understand - then you import that model into zbrush and transfer the polypaint to the new model with the new UVs. Really ?! You have the ztool open, then you click import and choose the new OBJ and what happens when you do that? The two objects switch places?

Can anyone explain this to me please? Basically I know the purpose of all this, I tested it for myself and it works, but I don’t know how.

Cheers!

If you have a model selected in ZBrush and import another model with an identical number of vertices, the new one will update the original. So if you have a polypainted model with no (or bad) UV’s and import a new version that has good UV’s, the UV’s will update. If that’s the only thing that has changed about the model, then your higher levels will be unaffected. You can go to them and transfer the polypaint to a texture using the new UV’s.

Thanks, it makes sense to me now
