How do you slice a subtool exactly in half in a given axis?

Hello.

I have a subtool and I would like to keep and then duplicate exactly one half of it. (There is something done to the mesh on one side I don’t want and the other half is perfect. ) If I were to try and manually slice it in half, I don’t think I can slice it exactly in half manually.

Is there a simple way to keep half of one side of a subtool and then I can Mirror/Weld?

Thanks

Mirror And Weld will delete the bit you don’t need. For example, with the X axis, simply position the mesh so that the bit you want to keep is on the left of the axis. (If the bit you want to keep is on the other side use Tool>Deformation>Rotate around the Y axis 180 degrees before doing the Mirror And Weld.)

Thank you but wouldn’t I have to slice this shackle clasp exactly in half if I want the Mirror/Weld function to create the correct proportions for symmetry?

If I don’t slice this exactly in half, wouldn’t the mirror/weld not create and exact mesh but without the “935 and unicorn”

(I’m trying to just make this Shackle Clasp exactly the same but without engraving). Is there any other way to easily get rid of the engraving? I don’t want to make a new one from scratch because all of the proportions and dimensions are correct.

Thank you sir!how do I slice this exactly in half.png

Mirror and Weld works from left to right. For your object, rotate it 180 degrees so the text you don’t want is on the right of the X axis and will be deleted when you Mirror and Weld.

Ah, I see now (I think). I will give this a try. I guess I never saw this in any videos yet.
So obviously perspective must be turned off and then I’ll try your method.

Thank you to both of you.

Thank you, Marcus and Bonnie.

It worked. I didn’t realize that I didn’t need to manually slice or delete before using that Mirror/Weld so now I realize what you guys meant.

thanks!

Great! :+1:

Well done Rick.
