How do you pose a sculpted mesh?

I’m new ZBrush and I can’t figure out how to do this thing which you would think is very simple. What I want to do is have a character that I can sculpt on and at the same time pose the character using a zsphere rig. Eventually I will want to have three copies of this character in unique poses but I would like to go back and forth between sculpting and posing.

So what I imagine is that I would have three copies of the rig sharing the same skin mesh or whatever you call it, which I could sculpt on and the changes would transfer to the posed rigs. OR maybe I would have three posed rigs with base meshes and use something like Transpose Master to transfer the poses onto copies of the sculpted higher res mesh.

I’m not sure how it is supposed to be done. I really can’t wrap my head around the workflow for rigging. Isn’t their some way to achieve what I want?

Create a separate 3D Layer (Tool>Layer menu) for each pose. You can then turn the layers on and off to switch to and from these poses.

For the actual posing, use TransPose. (See http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Transpose)

Thanks for your response Aurick. So with what you are suggesting I have a sort of default pose for sculpting and various poses that my sculpting can automatically transfer to? And then I could make copies of each pose when I am done I guess.

I don’t know Zbrush well enough to understand what you mean. I quickly tried making new layers on a model and posing it with Transpose but the layers all stay the same. I can’t store different poses on different layers. I would need step by step instructions.

Also, can I not use a zsphere rig this way? That is the whole point of what I want to do.

I thought maybe I could use Transpose Master, but I want to have three separate characters, same sculpt, different poses. I don’t think Transpose Master allows you to use existing rigs and it doesn’t understand working with multiple characters/tools does it?

oops… I started my reply before understanding other posts…

Thanks.
