How do you paint a 3D model while still in Edit mode?

Ok… I can model High-detail character and stuff, but how the Hell does I can paint while still in edit mode? There’s no place i found telling me really how… Please explain for a Zbrush 3.1 new user. Or I’m mixed up in how it’s work, or I’m a Total Noob… Anything that’ll help me with that…

Under tools… Texture…
turn on colorize… paint and profit

And be sure no texture is loaded or you will see the texture rather then the polypainting.

You convert the polypaint to a texture last…

Or you can fill the object with a material and color. If you choose a metcap material, you won’t be able to adjust the lights.

Choose a non metcap, the basics are nice.

Then hit mrgb w/ rgb at 100%.

Under color, hit fill object, with the desired tool selected.

Then hit rgb.

Pick a color and paint away with the standard brush! You can use alphas and different stroke types, spray etc. Play with the opacity as well. The new color info, because you filled the object originally, will be permanent. It’s too cool. Layer many different colors and experiment a lot, you can achieve very textured painting.

Once you fill a non metcap material, you can also paint on various materials by hitting m, which is material only. Rgb is color only. Mrgb is material and color. You cannot adjust the opacity of the painted material, though, it is 100% and sharp edged at all times.
