How do you move tools forward on the canvas?

Never really had to do it before in Z3- but how do you move the object forward towards you on the canvas? In Z2 I used the Gyro to move the object forward in front of other layers (move tool and then drag outside the model). Now in Z3 I am unaware of the Gyro existing. I’ve laid down a layer as reference art- but my model sits partly behind it. How can I move it forward?

Thank you
Craig

Hey,
The gyro tool is still there, as long as you are not in edit mode, you can use scale move and rotate with the gyro. If the model however is exactly lined up as front view , you cant move it forward with the gyro , you first need to turn it a bit then you can slide it forward.

another method is to use the offset slider in the tool->deformations tab. Offset Z also moves the object back and forth.

if the object is already snapped to the canvas (uneditable), you can use the layer sliders x,y,z to move the entire layer forward or back (Z axis)

Offset is not ideal, since that also changes the geometric center of the model.

Simply exit Edit mode and then press W to activate the move gyro.

Thank you

With the changes made to the move, scale, and rotate I made the ignorant assumption that the gyro was gone. I didn’t know about the layer sliders- that will work too. Thanks very much

I am having the same problem,… its an oldie

ZB3.1
Half my tool is disapearing into the canvas. Need to move the canvas back, cant reorientate the tool (need to keep it where it is in world space for max). Cant leave edit mode.
Tried dragging outside the model cant find the right key command to move the canvas back.

All help appreciated.

Kanga,

  1. Switch off Edit.
  2. Switch on Move. The gyro will appear.
  3. Click and drag downwards outside the gyro to bring the model forwards.
  4. Switch Edit back on.

HTH,

Thanx marcus this worked great. Guess I was paronoid about exiting edit:D
