How do you load alphas with lightbox

Hi there,

If been having this problem for a while and wondered if there was a fix for it.

If you open Lightbox and click alphas, when you select, double or even triple select an alpha it doesnt load in the alpha palette.

It does with textures and what not.

I have manage to load an alpha once and a while but have no idea of how i got it there.

Would love to know what im doing wrong.

Double clicking on the alpha in the light box will put it in the alpha palette.

Also:

I believe the alphas in the Program files/Pixologic/Zbrush 3.5 R3/Alphas folder have to be 16 bit grayscale with .psd file extension in order for that to work.

If it’s anything other than that then double clicking will put it in the Texture palette. If it does that then you can just open the Texture palette and at the bottom, click “Make Alpha”

I suspect that the alphas that you have in the folder are not 16-bit Grayscale PSD format. Anything not in that format will go into the Texture palette instead.

You are correct Aurrick.

Thank you. I now use the make Alpha from the texture palette to convert them into an alpha. Hope they go straight in to the alpha palette in Z4.

I have another problem now, when i try and remove the texture from the texture palette they still remain there. Is this a bug or again am i doing something wrong?

when you restart Zbrush, the alphas in your texture palette will be gone.

Thank you zber2, but like i said my problem is when i try and remove a texture from the Texture palette, they still remain there.

The textures in your Texture palette are in the following folder,

…\Pixologic\Zbrush 3.5 R5\ZData\Textures\

If you move or delete them from that folder, it will remove them from your Texture Palette.

Clicking remove texture, doesn’t actually remove it from the texture palette.

Actually its "Hold Down Shift and Double click to load to Alpha

I think they need to be PSDs and grey scale … and 8 bit depth is ok?

8 bit or 16 bit will work. The important thing is that they are single channel. A grayscale image that is three channel (RGB) will be loaded into the Texture palette.

And yes, PSD is the best format. ZBrush will only load TIF files that it has created.

This info will be very useful here

This doesn’t seem to work so well. I downloaded the alpha pack from here, the majority don’t load in, maybe they are not gray scale but i don’t see why it cant just import them. Also holding shift means it just adds an alpha to the shift/smooth brush.
