How do you activate Symmetry when masking?

I have seen this in speed sculpts, but I have to figure it out. When I activate Symmetry it just seem to be for geometry only. Is there A setting I need to turn on for it to effect masking as well?

I am not quite sure what you mean. Are you referring to having any masking you make on one side of the model automatically and symmetrically mirrored over to the other side of the model? If you have symmetry turned on (the same symmetry you use for editing geometry under "transform > symmetry) this will mirror any masking you create automatically.

doh. ok I was really tired last night when sculpting… I must have been doing something wrong… I was messing with group loops, poly groups and so on… I must not have had all the groups selected or something. Chalk it up to my noobishness. sorry for the silly question.
