How do I remesh and keep a good amount of basic shape and details?

Hey all, I have a phoenix model here and the first part of the wing has bad line flow from maya, I want to use the remesh (or maybe other tools) to fix this. How can i get a nice clone of this model but with nice topology on the wing arm part here? Using the remesh by default causes a lot of details especially the claws to form into a blob.

there is a sort of hamhanded way you can do this:

make a clone of that phoenix.
put it on the lowest sub D level, then use the move topological, move parts and move topo elastic to get the edge flow back in line.
do this through all sub D levels if you like.
you will skew the forms and details to some degree (try and keep it as close to the original form as possible). however-

at that point, you can reproject the details from the original phoenix onto the newly “retopo’d” one.
when reprojecting- set the distance slider to a value that 1.656 (or close), then reproject from the lowest sub D level and go up through each level.
i’ve done this a few times with really pretty decent results.
it kinda ends up being a down and dirty retopo in 10 minutes.

Hey Sammich, I tried this out and this does work for cleaning it up but is there a way to regenerate a nice clean mesh for this part or some way of remeshing the whole model and keeping the proper shape? I don’t have any subdivisions with detail yet so I just want to maintain the basic shape.
