how do I refine my mesh?

I didn’t know how to refine my mesh correctly!!

… when I refine, the new object is too smooth…

here a pic before smoothing and under them the refined (but too smooth and many details are gone)…

Which Smooth function are you using?

ZBrush has two options. The first one, under Tool>Modifiers>Smooth, does not affect the mesh. It simply renders more polygons. You can adjust the sliders to determine how much subdivision smoothing takes place.

Alternatively, you have Tool>Modifiers>Deformation>Smooth. This one actually averages points and will reduce the level of detail in the model.

thanks for answering aurick

but is there a way to refine my mesh??
actually I use an workaround and export the mesch to xsi and then I continue…

Tool>Modifiers>Deformation>Optimize will reduce the polygon count. You will still lose detail, though. That’s the nature of the beast when it comes to modeling – you should rely more on texture than on geometry for the small details.
