How do I make a model look solid after i delete a port of it?

I have taken a cube, turned it into a rectangle and modeled it into a smashed and broken sheet of plywood. To create a broken effect I sketched a mask then deleted the Hidden. I did not realize that would leave my model hollow looking on the broken end. There must be a way to seal the open edges to make it look like a solid object. I assume i could try to add the pixols with the standard brush the move and bend them into place… But i am guessing there is a faster beter more natural way to do it.

Anyone have any ideas? I am very new to Zbrush, Still fumbling :o . I have completed all of the tutorials for the essentials line in the classroom. But I’m not recalling the right technique.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

If you are using 3.1 then you’re dead

If you are using 3.5 export a low subd level, fill the holes in maya or 3ds max, and re import it.

I have Vue, Poser7, Blender, Zbrush 3.5r2 and 3.1, Gimp, and Photo shop Elements, and a Wacom Intous 4. not rich enough for max or Maya. there is no way in Zbrush to say close edges? Would it have been smarter to mask off my broken pattern and subtract it with my standard brush? I can start over i suppose. I was just hoping to learn a new Zbrush trick i can apply to my learning.

keep in mind I’m a hobbyist. Maybe I need to pickup Silo as well…

yeah, that seemed to do the trick. Masking then subtracting. I guess i was over thinking ™ things. Some day the noob will where off. :o

You can always retopo in zbrush, but it’s not easy for someone giving his first steps on zbrush…

Blender might be really useful

thanks man!

You can also try a different approach. Draw out a 3D Plane, draw a mask on it that is the shape of your plywood with a jagged broken end and then ‘Extract’ a mesh from that. Your edges will all be closed. ~S.~

oh! Awesome idea! hadn’t thought of that.

I feel like I'm at that funny awkward stage in my zbrush skills. that area between complete beginner and intermediate user. I am struggling with some concepts but learning fast. I have tried other modeling packages, Max, Blender, Free Space, but Zbrush has been the easiest by far for me. I find that I am able to quickly create good looking models for use in Vue and Poser. As you can see from my tools, I'm still a novice 3D artist. But I want badly to learn and grow into animation. My funds are limited, but I find Given time i can save enough money for good packages. My next big purchase Is going to be Vue Infinite 8. Currently working with Vue Esprit 6. God, this stuff gets spendy. Im also considering on getting Silo for more standard modeling. Blender is a great tool, but I struggle with the workflow, interface and render times.

:o Sorry for the ramble, I’m just excited to be able to start creating!

thank you!

Don’t worry, at least you have some box modeling abilities, giving the first steps is always hard, but step by step you’ll learn to run
