How do I designate parts of my model to be separate parts?

separated arm from body

How do I designate parts of my model to be separate parts?

If you see this picture, the arms is designated as separate parts from the body. ( see this by holding SHIFT + F key)

I can hold down SHIFT + CTRL and click on the body and the arms will disappear while the body is selected.

I have used the Zremesher to create a base model. I then duplicate and project this model until I have the correct details from the original model.

but if I hold down SHIFT + F key, it shows that the body is 1 whole object.

the arms and body are not seprated

how do I designate the arms to be separate entities from the body like in this picture?

Thank You much much

You can use trim laso tool but make sure to freeze the sub division before triming.

hi @One_Above_All !

so from the screenshot you had posted, the arms are a different part only if they aren’t weld to the main body.

Split to part will give you a warning message about the mesh being a single part mesh.
so if you unweld you can split into part and it will create a new subtool, with the two arms.

With Split similar parts, the vertex count much be the same on the model.
Use split to similar part when you want to edit an IMM curve brush afterward., the three parts IMM brush store three different polygroups and each part as the similar polycount.
anyway you can also in that case use split group.

So just to complete you don’t really designate by yourself what is a part and what is not you should do that using polygroup, and then split using Split Group instead.

Hope it helps!
