How Can I ZRemesh this?

Been trying to use ZRemesher on this simple model and it keeps destroying the top of the hat or it remeshes leaving only the top sliver. Been trying this for hours in various forms, remshing it first etc and no luck. No errors in the mesh on integrity and fairly small at 126k.
Any ideas?

are you using any control paint?

I think I follow. Just started learning ZB seriously a few weeks ago.
I did try polypainting the model all one color and clicking use Polypaint in the ZRemesher submenu if thats what you mean. In that attempt I got similar destroyed model results.

What are your specific plans for this mesh? The model doesn’t look simple from a retopology point of view, and zremesher likely isn’t the best tool for what you may be trying to accomplish.

Plan on using in Secondlife and need to gt the polycount down low enough it will import somewhere in the 20 k or less range.
I did a very rudimentary version of the hat fine so I decided to do a nicer one.

You could try running it through the Decimation Master plugin instead. The result may still be pretty high to get that amount of detail represented through geometry alone.

If you had a little more time to invest in manual retopology, it would ultimately be more efficient to create a simple mesh on top that would share the same silhouette (volumetrically), and have a normal map + transparency map to create the illusion of such webbing.

Thanks had not used DMaster before. Got closer then solidified top and was able to Zremesh. Finally :slight_smile:
Now to figure out how to make a decent UV out of this thing. lol

I agree, that is not a simple model for a re topology point of view. Zrememsher tries to remesh, while keeping existing lines. With this, I assume you want to simplify, so that you can have the individual parts shown as normal and transparency or something. If this is what your trying todo , the traditional method of retopologising would be far better as you could create it as you want it.

Cool got it. Still have a lot to learn in making UVs and Texturing. Like when I combine sub tools I loose Polygroups so had to try to reselect the band which wasn’t easy. And Zaplink doesn’t apply the textures to the model for me yet lol. Just ends up being a texture on the screen attached to nothing. So much to learn but having a blast :). ZBrush makes me feel like I have some artistic skill which I did not get that gift but can dream :).
