'Homecoming'...Finished Image,May 14...Mini-Tutorial added.

Something a little different, since endless repetition of the same theme is my least favorite activity…
This is being done on one layer, no ZAdd, only Flat Color material. There will be three ladies, in ancient grecian costume, the figure on the left gazing down to the water far below, watching a Trireme Galley making her way back to port after the Trojan War. This is based on a Victorian painting I saw a long time ago, which was painted in 1895…For me, it will be an exercise in traditional painting, and I’ll be saving the stages, which I may or may not post. I hope to finish this over two days, starting today, with this stage…The cat sculpture will look much more like Bronze in the finished piece…Hope you enjoy!

lookin good…next to water I am a sucker for cats…I love the first phase and am drooling in anticipation of an update… :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Looking good StoneCutter!..Carry on.

so far its brilliant… i look forward to the final render and dont worry ill see it for sure…

Nice start, the colour and texture on the stone is beautifully done. :+1: :+1:

It´s looking so nice that when I saw this…I thought that was the final image!!!
Keep it coming…

Its looking good, I particulary like this style. Looks to be similar in style to Lawrence Alma-Tadema, a Victorian painter who did some beautiful paintings. I shall be looking forward to the finished work. :sunglasses:  :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
Dave

Dave, your knowledge is encyclopedic!!!
Thanks to you, I found the painting I saw so long ago, that inspired this…It’s called ‘Coign Of Vantage’,and is indeed by Alma-Tadema…!!! You’re a marvel, and now I can work from a reference painting.
I actually was delighted to see the painting, because I did the cat sculpture based on a detail I scanned in from a library book about 2 years ago…
The downside is that now I can’t just make up the ladies, out of deference to this great artist, but the upside is I can now do him justice!

:+1: :+1: :+1: , Dave, and thanks!

FINE art.

Your work always imparts more than art. With it comes knowledge, technique, history, and skills of another time.

Wonderful start. I can safely assume this will be another glorious work of art. :sunglasses: :+1:

This is going to be absolutely frameable Mike! I love the archetectural work and although I am no huge fan of cats (yeah I know, here come the boos and jeers) this little kitty looks right at home. :+1: :+1: :+1:

It’s okay, Lonnie. This will be a bronze kitty! No allergy problems, or attitude…

It shows a good degree of skill Michael that you were able to get style so right. I certainly would not have been able name the painting, although I have probably seen it. I’m sure Alma-Tadema would be honoured.

Dave

I absolutly adore the colour use SC, I’ll be looking out for your updates. :+1: :sunglasses:

Okay, so I’m a lazy bugger! I wanted to have this finished today, but it’s going slower than I had hoped, so here’s an update, with the figures roughed in…At least you can get an idea of the composition now!

Don’t worry…I’m on the job!

I can see we are moving into materialisation mode, or could it be transporter mode. Nice to see the ladies appearing, keep up the good work, its going to be a fine image. :sunglasses: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
Dave

Way cool Mike!!

Very nice to see the work in progress of what will be an excellent pic.
:+1: :+1:

OH :grimacing: OH :grimacing: OH :grimacing:

This is just wonderful. Takes me back to Advanced Painting class, looking over someones shoulder as they block out something extraordinary.

WONDERFUL!!! :+1: :+1:

Well, who would have thought it would take so long to re-create a Victorian Masterpiece???
Annnyyywaaay…I decided I might as well post updates…These are the blocked-in figures, and with any luck at all, I’ll post the finished piece tomorrow. Tonight, I’m going back to the boat to watch the only TV show I watch all week, CSI…(I’m a Forensics Freek… )

When this is done, I’ll be posting a page of small images showing the process I use, so people can give this a try, and will be starting a ‘One layer, no ZAdd’ thread as a little fun challenge for us all…

Getting more and more enchanting Michael.

In your first image when you mentioned there were to be three ladies I couldn’t imagine where you were going to fit them in the image. It looked like there was no room. Yet now with the ladies filled in quite a bit it all looks quite natural! :+1: :+1: :+1:
