so im doing bas relief from 2d image to make it 3d and whenever i try to split the mesh it doesnt matter if i split by mask or unmasked or wit!h hidden it always split it and leave the mesh i splitted from, empty inside like theres nothing inside my question is how to fix it? everytime i split the mesh becomes hollow and empty but the sides, i watched some bas relief tutorials on youtube and their mesh not hollow after spiltting it. any help please?

However, what you describe sounds normal. The “Split” functions in the Subtool palette merely group the selected polygons into another subtool. They do not change or clean up the geometry in any way. If you split the polygons from the side of a closed mesh volume into another subtool, the result would be a hole in the mesh allowing you to “look inside” the volume.
Features like Dynamesh or Live Boolean can cut away sections of the mesh, then close the holes and resurface it , creating a new closed volume. It’s possible you saw one of these features being used.
