Hillbilly

Wow. This is some amazing work. I hope to get to this level at some point. I am just going to say this just to be nit picky and but I would do something more with the ears. You have this great fleshy and uneven look on your character but except for the earlobs the ears look pretty symmetrical. If it were my model I would maybe mess up the left ear some to offset the unevenness of the right side. Take this Critique however you want I am just adding my two cents. This is an awesome model worthy of Top Row. You should be proud of it.

Thanks everyone! To answer some questions I am using Vray in Maya, with a displacement map and a bump map for the pore and stubble detail. Im using a sss2 blended with a vray material to get better reflections. The color map is mostly hand painted and the spec is just a noise map.

ryantodd - good call on the ears, i think they could use some more asymmetry, maybe even some WAX

wethand - thanks, I know the seem is there i just haven’t fixed it yet, once i get caught up with modeling the rest of him i will go clean up stuff like that after.

Eiad - I have never seen those videos before but I will check them out now! I think they eyes lost some depth when i added film grain, they still need some tweaking tho so i agree

Here is my material setup for now for the skin, like i saed this is all still very early on in the project but if there is interest i will keep material settings updated as well. Also here is a reference pic and a straight out of the box render,

This is looking really promising.
I’d second the ear comment, looks a tad inflated at the moment.
BTW, I love the face… and I’m not his mother. ^_____^

Oooo man, I love this portrait!!! scary inbreds always creep me out.
Keep it up!!!

great work man, i dig it. The discoloration on the lips is a great touch

Looking nice. Maybe a bit more back scatter in the ears?

I had a few questions.

Are you rendering the hair in Vray or as a separate pass? And if your using Vray are you just using Maya hair with a Vray shader?

You wouldn’t by chance know how to get multiple displacement maps on one shader to work in Vray? I can get the shader to work on Mental Ray but it feels like I’m missing a setting in Vray. Any thoughts?

Keep it up!

i really love ! awesome !

great sculpt and render :+1:

LOVE it! :+1: :+1:

Thanks guys!

Heres another little update, i know the eyebrows and stash still need work, but i feel like hes coming along…next up an nice hunting hat then onto his body.

It’s coming out really well! :+1:

Awesome!

Very nice, although the eyes look a bit washed out. Keep going.

Still curious…

Sorry Mrguy, i meant to answer your question in my last post but i forgot. I am rendering the hair as a separate pass in mental ray. Reason being is that im using shave and a haircut and i dont have the version that supports vray and rendering the hair as geo in vray was taking too long, the hair renders in Mental Ray as hair prims in like 50 seconds. Im not sure about the multiple displacement maps, im rather new to vray…i share my office with a vray expert though so i will ask him on monday and let you know!
