Hide Menus and Delete Sub-Palettes

In RapidUI mode, many of the menu items (from the StandardUI) are not visible. How was this done? i.e. how can I hide selected menu items if creating my own UI?

Secondly, I’ve created a new custom menu with a few custom sub-palettes. How do I delete selected sub-palettes if I don’t want them anymore?

If you’ve pressed ‘Enable Customize’ you can get rid of any menu or menu item by Ctrl+dragging it to the canvas. Then save your custom UI to preserve the setup. As you probably realise, all menus will be visible if you’ve pressed the ‘Menus’ button.

With custom sub-palettes, I can certainly ctrl+drag individual buttons to the canvas to get rid of them, but what about the remaining empty sub-palette? I can’t get rid of it no matter what I do.

It doesn’t seem possible to delete a non-empty sub-palette without first getting rid of all the child members (otherwise I’m asked to type in a new name for the palette as soon as I hit the ctrl key).

For the main menu, I tried ctrl+drag to delete. The menu item drags but when you drop it on the canvas nothing happens. Note that I’ve got Preferences:CustomUI:EnableCustomize enabled.

If you remove the name of the subpalette in the rename dialog it will disappear when empty. You may find it easier to do this before removing the last button. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to work for the main custom palette and I couldn’t find a way of getting rid of it from the menus list. No doubt this is something that will be addressed in due course. In the meantime, either re-use for a new arrangement or simply ignore it!

HTH,

Actually, there is a solution but it’s destructive of all custom palettes. If you press the Restore Standard UI button in the Preferences:Config submenu it will clear the UI to the default set up. Store the configuration and you will no longer have any custom subpalettes. I haven’t so far found a way of saving some but not others. Save a Custom UI set up before trying this if you want to get it back later. Doing the above won’t destroy the Rapid UI as that loads a separately saved configuration file.

HTH,

Keep in mind that the only menus or buttons that you can remove are the ones that are located in a menu with the “User” icon. The core menus like Tool and Alpha cannot be subtracted from. (New buttons can be added through plugins, but nothing can be removed.)
