ZBrushCentral

heya!

Hey guys…

I am new to the world of Zbrush, and I thought about giving you guys a hey and a hello…

Actually…I remember using Zbrush over a year ago but then, I dropped it giving up. You see, my real skill would be animation, and not really modelling/texturing and such.

However, with Zbrush (at the second look) I think I have some hope…hehe…anyways…you’ll probably see a lot more of me…

cheers,
dpv

http://www14.brinkster.com/dpvtank/gallery/

that’s stuff I have done collectively in zbrush/cinema 4d
its intended to be a daily gallery type of thing, however due to a lot of work at school, I haven’t been able to update it for sometime :frowning:

anyways, thanks

Hi Dpv Tank
One painting by day !
It’s a good training !
Bon courage !
Have happy Zbrushing!
Pilou

Hey Frenchy…thats a nice tip…realistic to a beginner like moi!
Sets a limit you know, plus keeps you intersted instead of getting annoyed with what you are doing and stopping!
Im using the Demo download to see how much I can get into it!

Tips for starters always appreciated!

DPV, catching you up, thats some good stuff!

Some of the newbees posts where way out my league, a little off putting!

Cheers folks!

Hi Geidi
Welcome aboard !
And good Zbrushing, you can add “not more ten minutes by work”
(It’s a little more difficult, but it’s my personnal challenge
Pilou

Yeah, I usually am hopeless when it comes to anything. I usually just sit there in front of my application and this “duh…I wanna make something like in the movie”

But then everyday I realize I can’t, and everyday I say to myself I will. But I didn’t just know what to do. I opened up the application, followed tutorials, got bored, tried it again, got bored.

So, I thought the only way I can learn is to just do it. And that’s what I intend to do. Just do some work.

I’m still having problems with adaptive skinning, but I guess I have to learn more about zspheres. if I can learn succesfull adaptive skinning, I can make a few low poly model’s with which I have been meaning to work on my short film (an adaptation of the raven by edgar allan poe) and finally get some demo reel stuff up and going.

Welcome to ZBrush central. I think Frenchie is giving you advice he wished he could follow himself, the guy does not sleep:))) Believe me, ZBrush is extreamely addictive. You will not be able to stay away from it until about a couple of years, and then it keeps pulling you back. One of the main reasons is that the folks here are the friendliest and most helpful on the net. The other is the program, there is always something new to learn. Download the Manual and make good use of the the QuickLinks, you will find that any problem you have is already answerwed there. Good luck and happy ZBrushing!

Hi DeeVee, downloaded the Manual as advised!
It should stop me posting all my queries here to start with I guess! Again good advice well received!

Reading through it, it seems like a good guide to get me going!

I did not quite get what Frenchie meant by 10 minutes, was that dont spend more than 10 minutes a time in 1 session of ZB - HAH, dounbt that very much!

I like your and everybody else’s work! Hopefully I can reach your standards some day!!!

Good luck with your project DPV!

Well back to ZB! Timer started!

Yep ZBrush newbie myself, and almost gave up for a while, when it got a bit hairy. Glad i didn’t though.

Here is what i would recommend now to other beginners:

  1. Buy the program. Yes, it’s a strain to spend the money - was for me anyway. But the ability to easily save models (“tools”) - since you will often ruin them with newbie mistakes, will really cut out a lot of your frustration.

  2. Download the excellent manual and read it “thoroughly” - that is, by having ZBrush open and by trying everything out, as you read about it. Hands-on learning beats only reading every time.

If you can stand it, do this twice, seperated by a few days. Seriously, this will help your long-term memory formation.

  1. Review all the Zscripts. They are just great.

  2. Dive in and try a real project. Make it a pretty simple one, but actualling doing a real project all the way through is the best way to hit up against the real problems you will really encounter when you “get serious”. I had to go back and start over 3 times, as i realized i had made “show-stopper” errors. But that just gave me more practice and improved my memory of how to do stuff.

Try for the attitude that problems are just more learning opportunities. If my experience is typical, you will have plenty of problems - but that’s good, because, well, how else are you going to learn?

Consult the QuickLinks and tutorials often - the answers really are in there. If you get badly stuck, the troubleshooting forum is excellent.

This high quality level of modeling is a lot harder than i had hoped it would be. But on the other hand, i’m finding that i can actually do it! And the creative power is amazing!

Another thing i’m finding is that a lot of my problems come from my ignorance of the basics of modeling and texturing. So learn as much as you can about the jargon and technology shared by all modeling programs.

As in learning Adobe Photoshop, it’s all very fine to learn the many tools in the app, but how do you learn when and why to use them? That’s where your understanding of the basics of the technology is needed - to guide you in what to do next to get the effect you want.

Hi Geidi
Believe it or not but every “painting” that you can see on my Gallery took not more than 10 minutes !
It’s because it’s not “work modeling” just painting with 3D primitives or other stuff !
It’s evident that if I must “modelize” a head or a personnage, maybe I use more ten minutes
(Zspheres can help you to reduce the process of medeling
Have happy Zbrushing more or less 10 minutes
Pilou

Welcome aboard dpvtank!
