Help with UVs for a 'broken' tool

I’ve spent the last couple days building an alien leaf model and am now finding that I cannot UV it. I tried every combination of the ‘standard’ UV tools in ZBrush as well as UV Master and they all seem to hang when working on this tool. I’m wondering if someone, anyone, here can take a look at this tool and spot what be wrong with it. Here’s a screen grab showing the tool:

As you can see, it’s nothing all that complicated. It’s low poly count, only 400K polys. I can’t understand why ZBrush is crashing trying to UV it.

The tool is here for download:

If someone can get this to UV and/or ‘repair’ the tool I’d be ever so grateful. At this point I’d be happy with a converted and exported (by whatever means) .obj file with texture map - at least I can get that into Vue for the render I want to do and recoup my few days of work on this…

Update - a friend of mine got it to work by exporting out to Modo, UVing there, and importing back into ZBrush. So, immediate problem solved, but I’m still curious to know what it was about this tool that was apparently too much for ZBrush to handle…

Thanks for looking at this, zber2. I should have mentioned something about making the tool. This was done completely in ZBrush, with the main flat areas created with the curve quad fill brush, and then dynameshed a few times in the process of adding various structure.

I’ll certainly look at the retopo option…

No problem Dan!

ps: I just had a look at your website 3D Impact. I really like you artwork. Did use use Vue or Terragen to do the images in your Digital Gallary? Also, your bio is very impressive. Respect!

Thanks! Indeed, I use Vue a lot for my work; I’m presently running the latest build of Vue 10 Infinite. There’s a bit of XFrog and World Machine in there as well. I am also using Modo 501, but that is still at the same learning stage I am at with Zbrush, so nothing represented in the gallery yet. I use Photoshop more than anything of course to composite everything together.
