Help with subtool symmetry

As soon as I add an object as a subtool, it loses its symmetry… I can sculpt and pose one side, but if I mask it and click ‘smart resym’, I get the notice “0% points found, symmetry map was not saved”… is this just a glitch with subtools and if so, can anyone suggest a better way to create a scene in zbrush with multiple interacting characters without making subsequent characters subtools of the first? Thanks!

Each character (including it’s accessories and pose) should be in it’s own ZTool. Once your done with all of your characters and you have them all posed, you can use the subtool pallet to merge all of the subtools for each character. After you’ve done that for each one, you start merging them together.

The point is, don’t create a “scene” or diorama in ZBrush and expect symmetry to still work. Make each character separately, and the very last step before you render is to bring them together.

Poseable symmetry works most of the time, but it can be fickle.

Depending on your computer and the resolution of your models, you may run in to memory issues when you go to bring all of your characters into one file and have them all on screen at the same time.
