HELP with R4! Subtracting Subtools with Dynamesh - Identical to Joseph Drust 2012 SG

Hi,

I’ve been trying to subtract subtools with Dynamesh, indentically to Joseph Drust’s presentation at the 2012 Pixologic Booth. I’ve watched the video numerous times and I can only get the subtools to add when I finally Ctrl click and drag. I even made sure the subtool I wanted to subtract was set to Grouped a Dynamesh Sub under Polygroups with no luck. Can anyone enlighten me on my failure to replicate this process?

Much thanks ahead of time!!!

I’ve got the same prob. it was working fine for a while and now…not so much

Just tried it.

Have a square, make it dynamesh. append a tool tool. Now in this second sub tool, make it dynamesh. click on the little boolean subtract icon. Go to first tool. Click on ‘merge down’. Then ctl drag to redynamesh. Tool is subtracted from the first one. Works fine for me.

I have had a similar issue. I think it may be that the subtool to be subtracted must be directly below the parent sub tool in the list. I would have thought one could avoid the problem by simply merging visible instead of merge down but this does not work either.

I am very new to dynamesh functions like this so maybe there is a simple workaround or explanation for this problem?

Merge visible creates a new zTool. With merge down it just collapses the subtool below, into the one that is active. All you need to do is move what ever subtool you’re using for the boolean to just below the main subtool. Then when you ‘merge down’ it should like liek the two are joined, but when you reDynamesh it will subtract (as long as you have turned on the subtract switch prior to the ‘merge down’).

Not sure what issue you’re having as it seems to work as advertised to me. Are you not getting it to work?

Ahh ok it works fine, just had to re-position the subtool to be extracted. Silly me.

I did however notice the edges resulting from this particular operation to be very messy and rough but I’m sure this issue has been covered elsewhere in the forums so that’s where I will look.

Thanks for your help.

it eventually started working again. I never stopped doing it the “right” way. just one of those bugs I guess
