Help with hair?

Not sure how to continue with this… I don’t really know how hair “works”, if anyone can understand that. I’ve been copying this person’s hair to practice since it’s more or less the style I wanted, but sadly he only has a front view:

I have no idea how to make the sides or back, it comes out looking crappy.

Can anyone give me pointers? Draw on the model and show me.

Are you going for a hair system of some kind or more of a sculpted hair look?

All the “strands” you see are made out of separate zsphere chains. I just don’t really know how to do the sides of back. It starts to look like a mess.

I have this so far:

I’m just placing them, then I flatten them like the rest with the polish brush. I don’t like how it looks though.

In most of my drawing classes, it seems like teachers just keep saying to think about major clumps (sort of like what you’re laying down right now) and work down into detail from there. I know they used a hair system in The Incredibles, but I think you could apply this sort of reference to what you’re doing as well. Green would be the major clumps while blue are the subclumps that live inside it. Also maybe try experimenting with the rake brush once you’ve built up some resolution? Hope that helps,
