Help: Texturing for CGI Film

Hi Forum,

My name is Ben and I am currently enrolled on a Computer Games Design course at Staffordshire University. I am currently working on my Dissertation and am investigating the differences in workflows and industry pipelines for texturing a 3D modelled environment for CGI film in comparison to Games.

If anyone could help me out by providing insight into the CGI film industry pipeline for texturing, it would be much appreciated. The things I need educating on are texture resolutions; render resolutions; shaders/maps used; software used; and how UVW unwrapping is approached. Any additional details would also be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to assist me.

really awesome dvd

I remember reading an interview with a pixar artist… the shader developement was discussed. really briefly, textures/shaders are a lot more technical in the movie industry. they develop/write their own shaders. games generally use pretty basic shaders set up in the game engine. (which were developed/written by programmers also) there is more specialism in the movie biz. theres texture painters, and also technical shader writers. a game company usually just has a texture artist, or texture artist/modeler generalist and the shaders are written by programmers working on the game engine.
