Hello sbondai,

I’m not sure how deep you’re into ZBrush, but even though I consider myself still pretty green, I’ll try and give you some advice. Emphasize on try.
It seems to me you’re using the standard picked material, red clay.
I’d go for something neutral instead, more whiteish.
Because no matter what if the material you picked already is colored, your textures and polypaint are always going to be affected by that underlying basecolor given by the material’s color.
Other than that…use reference to pick the base colors, if you feel uncertain.

That’s just my 2cents, but you probably knew about that.
Hope it helped - otherwise, there’s plenty of skilled folks who’s presence we are all blessed with in this community, as they are seemingly always willing to share their rich knowledge and experience with us - and for free.

Take care~

SkinShade4 is great as it’s not a matcap but a classic shader. It keeps the specular when painting with dark colors and it’s white so you can paint in white by erasing polypaint or actually painting white. Try to fill a brownish color to the SkinShade4 to start, then play with similar lighter/darker tones with a low rgb intensity slider, try different alphas and strokes like color spray and spray

I think your new to ZB.

Just use Skin shade4 from given materials. Then start polypaint.
