Help PolyPaint to Texture workflow [Answered]

I have a high resolution model and a low resolution model, the Low has UV applied, the High polyPaint. My question is how do I get the polypaint from the High model to the Low Model?

I have tried changing it to a texture, but the quality of the texture is horrible and pixelated, is there a way to improve the quality of the low resolution Model?

Would be great if someone could help, maybe with a workflow as I appear to be running around in circles.

Thanks in anticipation,

How did you create the hi res model? Did you use the same topology as the low res?

Hi Marcus,
The hi res model was created using DynaMesh resized using Decimation Master to low poly, then UV applied to the low poly Model.

I have also retopoligised the High using the Topogun to a low model, and cant work out how to get the poly paint to either DynaMesh or Topogun low res model.

Any help would be gratefully received I am at my wits ends.

If you are creating completely new topology you can transfer hi res polypaint detail by:

  1. Appending the new topology as a subtool to the hi res model.
  2. Subdivide so the new topolgy has sufficient polygons to support the detail.
  3. With the hi res model visible and new topology selected and at highest level, use Project All to transfer the polypaint.
  4. Once the polypaint is transferred to the new topology, create a new texture from the polypaint.

Note that this will also transfer sculpted detail. In your example this shouldn’t matter because you are only creating a texture map.

Thanks Marcus…

Will try that tonight when I get back into town.
