Help Please: Load tool crash

Hi,

Ive been working on scultping a ferrari logo and nearly finished it yesterday. Today when Ive gone into the program and loaded tool, zbrush crashes. Ive sent it to a friend to try loading it and it’s doing the same on his machine. What could be causing this and can it be repaired?

If it’s a case that ive saved it too high for my machine to handle it to reopen, would a kind soul be able to open it for me and resave, if I send it to them?

My pc specs are: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 ghz 1 GB RAM ATI Radeon 9700pro Windows XP Version 2002 Sewrvice Pack 2

It sounds like your file is corrupted. Make sure when you save your tool to do it at subdivision level one or this happens. Sorry for the bad news.

Oh ok, thatz a valuable lesson learnt!! I at least have a high res object file that I exported out before the crash, so any other little finishing touches I can do to that by re-importing it!

Thanks alot for the info, save at level one sub division all the time it is from now on!!

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question that’s related. I’ve been having the same problem as above. I was wondering if i open an earlier file, go back down to Sub Division 1 & then save, will that possibly help, or will I have to start from the lastest file I saved at sub division level 1? please say the former.

I did manage to open an earlier file, which worked up until I tried to pick up from PM. Then it crashed.

Maybe it’s just not my day :frowning:

PS: My overall model is 90000 polygons, I’m using a 4029 x 4029 texture, and the BumpViewerMaterial to apply bump map. PC is 1 GIG RAM.

Thanks guys. (cant wait to be over this ZBrush ‘weening’ phase!)

maybe some of these are causing the crash.

If not then try lowering the subdivision to atleast 5 or 6 and work. that might still help.

Atleast you have more ram then I have

hey wckedsunny

thanks for the reply

i hate to say it but i’ve checked all those things that you suggested (due to previous blunders made!), and all’s fine. My CompactMem’s set to 830, Tool Undo to 1, MaxPolyPerMesh is default. MultiDraw & MultiRender are active.

Somehow I think the file is corrupt. Although it seemed to be working just fine before! (this is an incremental file I’ve saved). I’ve only gone up to Sub Division 3 as I’m using a BumpViewerMaterial. My major problem now is trying to use PM. I’m thinking it has to be the mesh - I’ve tried PM using fastshader & it still hates me.

Maybe the texture map is too large? Somehow I doubt it though.

It’s just crashed for the 19th time. I’m gonna go home & pray. Either that or my keyboard’ll go through the monitor.

I use most of my textures at that size with 512 mb ram mine should crash 19 x 2 times  .

The files gone corrupt maybe

If you dont mind posting your model on this forum, maybe I (or some good soul) can try loading it for you.

Awesome thanks. I try do that tomorrow.

Hi Wckdsunny

i don’t mean to sound like an idiot, but is it the .ztl file I need to upload? Because I tried that & got an error message.

Thanks
T

I believe you cant upload it on this forum. no option for that.

Look for some webserver or email me in a zip file.

I am sending you a private message for my email

OK, so after many crashes & much cursing, it appears that the problem was with the UV map. Pulled it back into maya to tidy it up. Strange though, as the uvs seemed to have gotten messed up somewhere along the way in ZBrush. I saw the original UV layout in Maya, & it seemed pretty perfect.

Or maybe not!

Anyways thanks for the help wckdsunny (without the i)

welcome

I miss the “i”
