Help out a new guy?

Ok Here goes,
I’m new to the whole zbrush thing and indeed pretty much to modelling itself. To give a breif overview of my overall skill level I spent much of my time growing up modelling with real life figures in clay and other materials. I used to also do a lot of conversion work for warhammer 40k models when i was much younger which is really how i got my start. Most recently I have worked with photoshop and maya but I have mainly concentrated on textures for in game mods and personal photography (i.e. basically i used maya for rendering and basic static mesh creation).

Zbrush really appeals to me but i have a few questions…

  1. I have read it is worth picking up a graphics tablet for this program, as mine just broke i was thinking of just picking up a cheap wacom bamboo for about $79 will this see me through in zbrush?

2)I’m keen to learn but i really only want to do this as a hobby. I’ve picked up introducing zbrush by Eric Keller and zbrush character creation by Scott spencer are there any other books that you would recommend reading?

3)Point 2 aside (in that i take my hobbies very seriously) I wouldn’t mind taking courses on zbrush if at all possible does anyone know of any online courses i could take or if possible colleges or night schools in south virginia that offer such classes?

I’m sure i’ll have plenty more questions but i thank you in advance for your replies this community seems to be very supportive and I can’t wait to see what I can do with this program.

The Bamboo is probably fine. Try doing a search here at ZBC for “bamboo +tablet” to see what results you get. You’ll be able to read comments by other users on this subject.

As far as I know, those are currently the only two books. You might also consider some of the DVD’s from Gnomon and elswhere. http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/dvdtraining/ Quite a few people swear by Meats Meier’s DVD.
