Help! My model doesn't look right!

Okay, so for some reason, my model looks great in the preview window that pops up when I hover over the material slot, but in the actual canvas, something is making it look dark and red. I’m really new to learning ZBrush, so I don’t really know how to troubleshoot this myself. Can anyone offer suggestions to fix this? I’ve tried playing with the lighting a little, but it doesn’t really seem to help, even with some lights that I’ve downloaded from other users.

The color has been filled with a skin color using the FillObject button under the color menu, and then the color picker was changed later. So changing the color there doesn’t do anything. It also still doesn’t explain why the preview image looks different than what’s on the canvas.

I’d recommend updating to the latest patch(P3)
Happy ZBrushing.

It’s hard to tell by your screengrabs. Maybe if you can upload the tool somewhere, I could have a look at it.

Also, you can try resetting the material by fillining it with Flat White.

Would Dropbox work? Or do you have another place you would recommend?

Dropbox should work.

Took forever to load, but here’s the link. I’m not sure if this is the correct way of getting the file to you? I just went to File>Save As, and uploaded the file it produced. Hopefully that will get you what you need.

Move your color selector to pure white and fill again with “Color > FillObject”.

I did that but it’s still dark and red. Not nearly as bad, but still enough to make me wonder what’s going on. Is it just my copy of Zbrush being weird? Is it my computer? Are you having the same problems, or does it look fine on your end?

Did you set your light back to the way it was?

I’ve been playing with the lights, my material, and the base color quite a bit, but nothing seems to help. I don’t know where that red tint is coming from, or why it’s not showing up in the material preview. The light on those settings seems to blow out the colors quite a bit. I’m trying to get a nice skin tone, and the lights being that bright makes everything too white (or makes the model look sunburned, at the very least), but having the light on lower settings brings in the red tint again.

Did you make any adjustments to the Material before?

I was following a tutorial on Digital tutors to make the skin material. Before that, I had it on BasicMaterial with a skin color on it, but then I changed it using the M button on top so that I could preview the DualShade material that’s on it now. When I was following the tutorial, it looked great when I was using the Best render, but I still need to paint it a little more, like adding color to the lips and stuff, so I wanted to take it back to the preview render to work on it some more. But that’s where it’s all red, so it’s hard to get the colors I want. I just don’t know why there’s such a difference in color between the preview and best renders.

Well, all I can suggest is try playing around with the Colorize Diffuse sliders in shader slots 1 and 2. Or just save the ZTool (Tool > Save As) open a fresh blank Zbrush doc, load the tool and start over. You could also find a lot of free Materials with Google search.

Well, it must have been something with my material, because when I loaded the tool, it was fine, but the red tint came back while I was recreating the material. So I think I must have put a weird color into one of my diffuse channels, and I think that was causing the issue. Thanks for all the help, and sorry if this was frustrating for you.

Your welcome and it wasn’t frustrating. I think it definitely had something to do with the material.
