Help me with this please!

Hey guys,

I got a problem with my model:
I’m ready to make a uvw map so I can make a normal map texture map and so on…
I wanted to take my low poly to 3ds max to uv it but then I found out that I accidentally deleted my lower subdiv levels…

So now I got the next options:
Start all over again(not really an option)
uvw the higher poly mesh (pain in the *ss and takes a lot of computerpower so I won’t be able to render hair on the mesh (and hair is necessary)
But last night while I was thinking about it in my bed (like I do every night :stuck_out_tongue: )
I thought maybe decimation master would do the trick…but that would turn all my quads into triangles so im just guessing that would work either…

I hope that the ones reading this have a solution for me…

Waiting for your replies.

edit: placed this in the wrong section…please relocate this to the questions and troubleshooting section

ZBrush has a Reconstruct Subdiv button that will bring your level 1 back. Do some research on that button to find out more.

He Dustin thanks for your reply, I forgot to mention that I have already tried this but the operation is cancelled anytime I try it…

So I really start to think that I can forget about this model…since I can’t come up with anything,

I still hope for a solution so if you’re reading this and have one please let me know it would help me so much…

I’ve added a part of the mesh(the head) to show you guys what model I’m talking about and what a waist it would be to leave it as it is…

If you have a low poly version of your model then simply:

  1. Import into ZBrush as a new model.
  2. Subdivided to the same level as your sculpted mesh.
  3. Append your high res model as a new subtool.
  4. Make sure the subdivided mesh is selected and at its highest level, then use Tool>SubTool>Project All to project the high res detail.

Alternatively, Decimation Master should still be able to give you a good result. Set the decimation to a low value (so that you end up with 1k polys or whatever). If you want all quads then subdivide the decimated mesh once and delete the lowest level. You can follow the steps above to project sculpting back on to a subdivided mesh.

HTH,

Thanks Marcus for your help, It’ll take me a couple of days to figure out exactly what you mean hahah it’s really complicated to me.

Again thank you for this I think this will solve my problem
