Help in creating the following technique - I am using Zbrush 3.1.

I would like some help in creating the following technique - I am using Zbrush 3.1.

Take a model (the demo head for instance) have one transparent and the other (as is - or painted - or textured) then scale down the non-transparent model some and place it into the transparent model - thereby forming a transparent skin over the non-transparent model.

Is there a way to do this in Zbrush 3.1?

TIA

The ZBrush renderer doesn’t currently allow for a model to be self-transparent.

If you’re rendering in ZBrush you can hide the transparent subtool, then snapshot the model to the canvas. Place a marker. Now create a new layer, invert visibility, and use the marker to redraw the object. This will position the object that’s to be transparent so you can simply snapshot it in place.

Now you can turn off Render>Flatten. Set up the render of the background layer (what will be seen through the transparent object). Do a best render. Switch to the transparent layer and do that rander.

To actually control the transparency, use the Material>Modifiers>Transparency slider for the material that is applied to the transparent object.

I should really lean how to use markers some day. There’s this whole 2D side of ZBrush that still scares the bejesus out of me.

Thanks for the help aurick.
