help importing tiffs

What format do tiff files have to be for Zbrush to import. I’ve tried every setting I have on several different programs and Zbrush always gives the same error message: “unable to read the specified file.”

And does Zbrush have anything other than “mrgbz grabber” for selecting portions of images. Grabbing a square or rectangle isn’t very useful to me. I need the common lasso tool like any other program has. So is there a plugin or something I’ve missed?

Also, do we have a help .pdf yet, other than what’s on the wiki?

Thanks for any help.

To import into ZBrush you should use PSD instead of TIFF. There are just too many variations of the TIFF format.

Thanks Aurick

All I need to do is import a file with a transparent background. But neither TIFF or PSD is working.

I read in one forum post that the PSD has to be greyscale. Which seems redicoulous because I need color.

PSD should be 16-bit grayscale for use as an alpha. Not for a texture.

ZBrush does not support the kind of transparency that you’re looking for. Fill the transparent areas with pure 0,0,0 black. ZBrush will see this as transparent. Depending on your needs, you may need to turn on Texture>Transparent Texture as well.

By the way, for your lasso question try using ZAppLink. In ZBrush 3 has features that let you create selections in Photoshop and use them in ZBrush as a stencil. See the Wiki for more info.

Thanks aurick. I’ll give those a try.
