help importing obj from maya and sculpting on it

im having a little problem , i modeled a simple lightsaber mod in maya , and want to get more detail in zbrush , but when i import it to zbrush and try to work on it ,every thing i try in zbrush seems to turn it inside out . and yes im still learning zbrish for the most part. and i used maya 8

any ideas or help,
