Help! I can't zoom out!

Greetings All,
I have searched in the forum and gone through so many tutorials for hours to try to figure this insanely simple thing out- I am editing a 3d sphere, Normally you can zoom in and out by: pressing the alt key, then clicking the mouse button somewhere outside of where your model is, then letting go of the alt key and dragging your mouse. I know that. BUT, when you have the entire model filling the screen (zoomed in close) you can’t click outside of the model, so what the ^%$&^% do you do? I am so frustrated! I try to hit the scale button in the transform palette, but that takes me out of edit mode and flattens my object to 2d, and I have to redraw a new one.
Please help.
Thank You!
Christine

Simple isn’t it ?

Yes, you can click outside the canvas and get the same result. On the other hand, if your canvas fills the window you also have the Zoom button on the right shelf.

Sorry it has taken me so looong to reply, but thank you for the reply!!!
