Help from anybody?...please

Hey just some quick questions for you advanced zbrush users…im starting to get real familiar with the program…idealy im usuing the program just to have some nice high res models but here are some questions that i have…

first would anybody recomend to fully sculpt all the details or texture them…

second, if i finished a model in zbrush would i be able to render out a turn around or would i have to re-import it in maya?

lasty if anybody has any good video tutorials for more advanced texturing methods within the program…

Thanx alot for your help…

Well, I’m no advanced user by any means, and since no one’s replied yet, I’ll give my 2 cents on some of your questions.

To answer your first question, it really depends on how much detail you’re going for. If you want super detail, then it’s probably best to use the alphas to get all of your details in. Sculpting all the little pores and what not one by one would be insane. On the other hand, if it’s not TOO much detail, then I don’t see why you wouldn’t just sculpt them in yourself. Like I said, it really depends on how much detail you’re wanting.

Your second question, Zbrush does have a turn table feature in it now, although I have not used it myself. I’m sure if you search through the threads, you’ll find a tutorial on it.

As for your last question, if you want tutorials on how to texture, you can purchase some on gnomonolgy.com for a small price, or the gnomonworkshop.com.
If not that, I’m positive there are some laying around here in the forums as well. You just have to look for them. Hope I’ve helped a bit.

You can use the Movie palette to render a turntable and export it as QuickTime.

As for how much you should do with texture vs. sculpting, that really depends on your ultimate goal. Will you be rendering in ZBrush or another app? What does your renderer support in terms of normal and displacement options? The less your renderer supports, the more you have to rely on the color map.

Thanks you guys for you advice,
Well I am upgrading my portfolio so originally I thought I would have to export my zbrush models into maya and then texture/render a turnaround to put into my reel. Ive been looking around the forumn and it seems like i can do all of that in Zbrush which saves me alot of time, but i gues my next question is would you prefer Zbrush to render your sculpts or another app. like Maya?

Oh yea I almost forgot,

Heres my first attempt at a zbrush bust of Anubis…Tell me wut you think so far

I think rendering in either program works fine, but for me, personally, I would rather render it in your original application (in your case, Maya) only because you can use mental ray and/or another rendering plug in to make your render look a little better. I’m sure Zbrush can render just as fine, too, but again, this is just my personal preference. I haven’t really messed with Zbrush’s lights set up so I’m not too sure about that.

As for your model, it’s a good start, although the front skin flap is a bit too sharp. Looks like you used the Pinch brush a bit too much on it. You should soften that up a little.
