Help cover my weird tree creature with leaves

Hey everyone

After a huge break from creating weird creatures in 3d, I’m back due to a 2 weeks long break from the uni

I’ve been visiting the forum often though, checking for new pics. There are lots of talented people in here.

Anyways, I wanted to ask you guys for advice.
I’m making a tree-like creature, and while I’m pretty good at creating barks by now (having done so many times) I don’t really know how to create foliage.
You can see in the picture that for now I just used some deformed spheres to represent it. I was wondering: Which way is best to create the foliage, in your opinion?

I’m making this for a 2d picture, so ultimately I’ll render and edit it in photoshop. Should I maybe make the foliage in photoshop, or is there a good way to do so in Zbrush?

I ran a search but couldn’t find any satisfying results.

THANKS!!

hi for a final 2d image i have used a leaf texture with black background set to transparent applied to terrain 3d and spray stroke has produced convincing results!

For the leaves you could go wit Meat Meyers’ trick.
Make a leave alpha, mask off areas of your deformed spheres so it is covered with leave masks, hide unmasked area and delete unmasked. Repeat several times and combine to form dense foiliage.
