Hello, new to the board.

Hello, as the title says I’m new to the board here. My name is Doug (friends spell it Dugg, which you are all free to do if you want) and I’ve been into 3d since about 2009. I am most familiar with 3ds Max and for awhile was of the thinking that Mudbox was somewhat superior to ZBrush. But, the more I learned about Zbrush (dynamesh and mesh extract specifically) the more I was sold that I was mistaken.

However, I’m trying to establish a good work flow and most of the time I’ve been exploring the world of 3d art, I’ve been working with architecture and not so much character design. Character design is something that I and working on now, and I have a few cool characters that are sort of trapped in my head and I’m having some trouble bringing to life with Zbrush.

I am really impressed with dynamesh and have seen some awesome stuff done with it but it seems to work differently than the zbrush I have, primarily the mesh insert functions (I still get the subdivision error message when I try to insert meshes when I have dynamesh button activated) and do you have to create body part meshes (like mouths and hands) before you can insert them? A lot of the tutorials I have seen folks already have the brush in their palette and I don’t have such brushes in mine, so I was thinking maybe they were created beforehand?

It’s just a bunch of noobie questions that I need help with, pretty much. I’m looking forward to posting some work on here and seeing some of yours to keep the creative juices flowing.

Ok, so I learned how to have the dynamesh update by using the ctrl+click in the open area, but now … How do I render out a picture? Most of the render options seem to be viewport only options, and I want to render out a jpg file or something…

Is there something I’m missing in a render setup option or something?

Aha… Under Document, export screen grab.

Like I said, used to Autodesk products. The uploader is being argumentative and isn’t letting me upload my WIP, but we’ll see what happens later.

THere’s “how to post images” guide sticked at top here. Bassicly you have “upload image or file” button bellow and after that you can make an thumbnail from your picture to be seen in recently uploaded works in the Main Forum.

Hope you will learn how to use everythiung. Great start is to watch all the videos from ZClassroom at pixologic.com, go there and you will lear most of the things.

I’ll go ahead and look into that and have some of my stuff posted tonight
