Hello! Need help with creating hair the cwahl way

Hello there, I’m new in the forum and to Zbrush. I have had luck making some cool free sculptures with just the move tool, but I’d like to add hair to them now. I’ve tried to use cwahl method of creating an Alpha, GrabDoc/Make3D, then using Deformation to Lengthen it along the Z axis, and trying to Twist it.

Here(1) you can see I’ve been able to get straight, simple hair.

Here(2) you can see that the twist will work slightly, but already there are weird hooks and triangles appearing at the end. At this time the Z axis was Twisted by only 3.
Here(3) finally you can see what happens if I try to twist even a little bit more. The polygons all overlap, it looks like a bunch of crap and not at all like hair. :stuck_out_tongue: For reference, here is the kind of effect I’m trying to achieve.

I assume I’m doing something simple wrong, or something. I’m using Zbrush4.

Thank you very much for reading my thread and for any advice you can offer. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Hey there,

looks to me like you just don’t have enough Polys to properly twist the strands. Your interface says 496 points. Just subdivide the tool a couple of times and you should be ok.

Hope that helps
