Height of sculpt HELP!!

I need to sculpt onto a given size of cylinder. Say 1" for example. I need a way to know how high the sculpt is at the highest point from the surface of that cylinder. …OR… even better, a way to control the maximum height of the sculpt from the cylinder surface. Can someone tell me if this is possible please. Any…ANY advice is appreciated. Many Thanks. Dan.

Hi, Dan!

Is this for 3D printing, and does it need to be a precise measurement? ZB has a great plugin called 3D Print Exporter (ZPlugins>3D Print Exporter) which allows you to export a model in the exact height, depth and width you want in both inches and milimeters.

Hi Skyways,
Thank you for the reply. The output file is not for printing…but is for machining. The STL out of the print exporter will work just fine. However, if I use that method to size the model, it will (i think) change the size of the entire model. So, if I started with a 1" cylinder, it would shrink that as well as what lays on top of it. That would be an ooops!

I will look at that and see if I can figure out something. Would it be logical to begin with drawing the cylinder, add the sculpting, delete the cylinder… and just output in the STL, the sculpted portion?? I can already see some problems with that even if it will work.

THANK YOU AGAIN for the help. Dan.

There is a plugin for measuring that perhaps could be useful:

Thanks Altea,
I’ll look at that and see if it will help. I appreciate the reply. Dan.
