This is very well done, it looks like a head
found on a dig.

OK here’s an update. After working all night and all day today. This is still at the default sphere resolution, the mesh has not been subdivided anywhere. Every point on the mesh has been placed individually. More than twice!

I’ve been working on the ears all day. There’s about 8 hours in them, although I still have to add the detail. I’ve also posted a detail of the mesh.

awesome man!!!
with such a low poly mesh

That’s some mean low fat, no calorie modelling you’ve got there!
A great project you’ve obviously gotten right into judging by the amount of time devoted to it.
Well done mate! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Nicely done !

I just had the eyestudy script running and now this
Low poly editing sure is troublesome but the results are fine, low-poly meshes.

Are you going to use this in some kind of game engine ?

greeez

I can assure you that manipulating the mesh is not as tricky as it seems. Here are some progress pictures. Basically I used the same low poly head I used in a previous post to get to the one at the top of the thread.

In the pictures you can see how I had to squash the nose to make room for the mouth. However the mouth required a couple of rebuilds the first on was to get more polys into the nose then I realised that I didn’t need so many in the chin so I took the nose apart the second time to shift the top lip into the nose then push the mouth up to make room while I pulled more mesh out of the chin then put it all back together. The above steps are approximately what I did. It got a bit confusing.

However the end result is worth it as I have a mesh that has lots of room. If the mesh is divided too early then it becomes to fine to be able to put crucial details in. For instance to get the corners of the mouth I have to reach in through the top of the head and ZBrush has a lot of difficulting locating the right node. Hope all that wasn’t too boring.

Nemo, I don’t do this for the sake of low poly I do it for the sake of getting what I want, which is a realistic head. It is all very well making monsters and carricatures and I don’t want to take anything away from that but I aim to use Z as a sculpting tool and to get the level of detail I want I have to start at low poly. To get the corner of the eye for example cannot be done as a high poly.

This is really good, I cant get my lips looking that good yet at high resolutions.

Tammy,

that is my point. most people tend to think more mesh more detail. but it doesn’t work like that because a fine mesh is extremely difficult to work with if you need to match a particular thing.

After the mesh is set then you can divide it. You see by having the mesh as low poly then you can effect sublte changes in the curve and shape of the lips. In the latest model which was done from measurements and memory. I won’t be happy with the model until it looks like the person it is meant to be. I have just since noticed that the top part of the lips apear as a straight line from the front and appear curved only from the side. It will be easy to adjust this and if I’m not happy I can adjust it further. I’ll do this with each part. This would not be possible with high poly.

I have created a script to teach how low poly modeling works. It is a simple flower made from a sphere but it gets you used to moving points and getting a feel for the mesh. You can find the file near the bottom
this thread

I’m sorry it is not much of an update but I have rebuilt the eyes and restructured the mouth. I’m trying to actually make it look like a real sculpture of someone. I also had to make the ears smaller which necessitated a top end rebuild.

It’s coming along though…

This is a before and after grid.

Its looking very good. Your putting alot of hard work into this and it shows.

Dave

These are bloody good

You just need to work on the ears a little more then your set  I used some of these techniques while doing ‘Bruce’ in the other thread  Good work

Well this is about as far as I think I’ll go at this mesh. It’s still the standard default sphere.

After this I’ll divide the ears and nose and mouth and finish it.

probably

Some dividing now. One ear done, one to go.
