Head Sculpt W.I.P.

Hi guys,

I got ZBrush 3.1 a couple of days ago and I must say I am having a great time with it. I created the base model for this in 3dsmax and sculpted the details using ZB.

I aim to use displacement maps in max at some point in the near future. I always seem to have a problem with displacement maps in max, they always end up being really bloated and make my characters look like they have been stung by a million bees LOL!.

I really like the leathery material the top of the head has. Can you share the tools you used to achieve this and the other details of the face? As a Max user myself, I can understand the bumblebee effect  No one model is the same it seems when using displacement. Always constantly tweaking.

For the leathery folds on the top of the head, I created a few ‘wavy’ alpha maps in photoshop and applied them to the model in Projection Master. The other details were achieved using a variety of alpha maps, some found here at zbrushcentral and others which I custom made.

I have included an example of the wavy alpha in use and the alpha itself for you to have.

Cheers again for the comment.

Ahh yes, an Alpha map! Very cool. I seem to always forget custom alphas  Thanks for sharing!

Very nice indeed and thanks for the tip

I’m still trying to work out how to use displacement maps in 3dsmax myself. I’m really not having much luck in getting them to work properly. Try and try again I guess. Cheers for all the positive feedback.

This is another quick sculpt I did yesterday. Base mesh was made in 3dsmax.zombie-render.jpg

Looks like Chris Rock as Frankenstein, LOL

I never thought about that when I was sculpting away, but now you say it…LMAO.
