Here are some of my experiments with fur,

alternate brush strokes between Zadd and Zsub,
vary the pressure applied on each strokes,
apply a coat of noise for additional randomness (optional)

Your model is a tribute to the 80’s. I love the detail in Battlecat his fur is so believable. Although its highly detailed you also kept with the style of the cartoon making it that much better.

Have you though about adding battle damage to the armor?
