HD SubTools need to be merged. (Help)

Hello everyone,

I have been working on a model recently of a dragon.
I had polygroups assigned and wanted to sculpt in HD since i wasn’t getting enough detail using millions. Everytime i tried hiding by polygroup and using HD, the HD would bring all object into visibility which was undesirable as i wanted to isolate pieces of my mesh.(Also i think the material went haywire sometimes when i tried to sculpt on one mesh using HD and not subTools).

I split up the mesh into subtools using the default button that works based on polyGroups.

I continued to work on separate pieces like the limbs and such. I had separate poly groups for the forearm and the upperarm. After I was done sculpting the forearm i wanted to merge it with the Upperarm so I could seamlessly sculpt between the two while preserving polygroups.

However, the combined meshed ended up EXTREMELY corrupted with jagged ridges everywhere and triangles stretched out into infinity. The HD detail was lost obviously. If hit the “ALL LOW LEVEL” the mesh would go back to a semi normal basic mesh that i initially started on but the seams are not connected/merge.

Both subtools (forarm and upperarm) had the SAME number of divisions and HD divisions.

My questions are :

-Is there a way to merge HD subtools without having the separated seam?

-Am I going to have to go back and work on the single meshed Dragon from the start in order to have my HD detail and it be one tool with polygroups?

-Say I have to reimport the original base mesh of the Dragon (like one would for a retopoed mesh), would i be able to copy all the HD detail from the separated subtools onto a new SINGLE tool mesh?

Thank you for any info or advice you can provide. Hopefully there is a simple solution other than don’t separate a mesh and sculpt in HD.

No answers? :\

I could really use some advice.

Thanks :]
