HD Geometry: Hiding inactive mesh

I’m playing around with the HD geometry, and I kind of like the way the rest of the model appears in low res when you activate the mode. That part is nice, but suppose I want to work on the palm of a hand, is there anyway to isolate the hand and hide the inactive geometry?

The characters body is getting in the way when I try to move my camera into position and at times it’s nice not to have a whole bunch of mesh flying around in the background. Is there a setting you can change to simply hide any geometry that isn’t being worked on in HD? Thanks!
