having trouble importing first alpha from photoshop

How can I import in the zbrush alpha pallete only the alpha channel and not the original image from photoshop? I made an alpha mask in photoshop, the file was save as a psd format . When I tried to import it in the zbrush alpha pallet, the image in the layer was converted to an alpha instead of the alpha mask. I tried saving it again in photoshop as a psd format with options alpha selected and layers unselected, again the image in the layer was converted to a zbrush alpha. Back in photoshop I made a new layer then deleted the layer with the original image, in zbrush when trying to import the alpha I get a file error message.

ZBrush only uses the Layers info when importing PSD’s. It doesn’t use anything in Channels or Paths.

So what you need to do is convert your alpha from a Channel to a Layer. This is really easy:

  1. Flatten any layers and fill the one remaining layer with black.
  2. Convert to 16-bit Grayscale for best results.
  3. In the Channels tab, Ctrl+Click on your alpha mask.
  4. Back in the Layers tab, use Edit>Fill and choose White.
  5. Save your PSD to import into ZBrush’s alpha palette.
